Add That Zing To Your Academic Writing

Posted by on Dec 16, 2016 in Academic Writing | 0 comments

You are confident of your research but presenting it on paper in the best way is another story. For example, if your paper has grammatical error or even spelling mistakes, you are going to lose points. Not only that, you are going to lose trust of your peers and readers on your research as well. However, getting the grammars and spellings right is not enough. What else would you require to present a good academic paper? Clear and concise presentation: The first thing that you need to understand is what and how much of your research to preesent on paper. During your course of work, you might have worked upon a plethora of ideas. Some of these might have worked for you more than others. But you need not present all of them. Choose the ones that have been most relevant in your course of work and condense the material to make it a crisp and clear reading. No Plagiarism: Make this a standing rule for your academic writing. Do not copy text or ideas from other sources. However, if you need to use text from other published work, be sure to give credit to the sources. Say it with conviction: If you are confident about your idea, go for it. It is best to avoid ambiguous sentences that leave room for speculation. Basically, your academic paper is all about your research and not what you might have come across or read somewhere. Add proofs wherever you need to for any statement that you are making. Quotable quotes: There are times when using quotes are imperative to your writing. However, do not use too many of those in your work as you would lose credibility. The best way to go about quotes is to shortlist a few relevant ones and then use the ones that fit in the most appropriate way. Summarize: One of the most difficult of tasks is to condense your work to a few hundred words. However, the summary of your work is like a key that would open the door to the rest of your writing. The summary is just as important as the rest of your work and take ample time and care to write a good one. Keep these points in focus when writing about your research and add that zing to your academic...

Whenever the question of research output comes into picture, researchers mainly talk about two components, namely dissertations and research papers. From the very perspective of obtaining prominence among the community of researchers, it is needed that both of these forms of research output are carried out in the best manner possible. Dissertations are carried out under the supervisions of senior academicians and researchers, and research papers are mostly written on a solo basis. In terms of volume of work and effort to be put forth, dissertation is much superior as compared to research papers, whereas the latter is considered as the benchmark of the quality of a researcher’s true abilities. Though both dissertation and research paper are considered as the forms of research output, they differ from each other in various aspects. Following are examples of some of those aspects: Dissertation is based on a detailed research based study, in which a researcher has to look into a number of aspects, and the number of research questions in a dissertation and the hypotheses are also quite higher in terms of numbers, as compared to a research paper. Research papers are majorly focused at a particular research problem, and the study cannot be described in details, as the limitations regarding number of pages and words in academic journals do not allow the research papers to conduct the study in details. From publication perspective, dissertation can never be an option, as the scope and volume of the study can never be an interest for the researchers and practitioners across the world. Driven by the need of crisp and focused research based studies, research papers are written and published in journals. However, it should not be forgotten that good research papers can come out of a good dissertation only. For more information about the difference between dissertations and research papers, kindly browse through the pages of...
